What are the best coffee beans for home use?
The best coffee beans depend on your brewing method and personal taste. At Coffeeteca, we offer freshly roasted beans from local roasters in Belgium and Netherlands - ideal for espresso, filter, moka pot, or French press. Explore our curated selection to find your perfect match.
What’s the difference between cheap (commercial) and specialty coffee beans?
The difference is all about quality, freshness, and ethics.
Cheap (commercial) coffee beans are often mass-produced blends made with low-grade Arabica or even Robusta beans. They're usually roasted very dark to mask defects and can taste bitter, flat, or burnt. These coffees rarely include information about origin, roast date, or the farmers who grew them. Cheap coffee is made for price.
Specialty coffee beans, on the other hand, are high-quality Arabica beans scored 80+ on the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) scale. They are carefully grown, hand-picked, and roasted in small batches to highlight their unique flavor notes - like fruit, nuts, flowers or chocolate. At Coffeeteca, each coffee includes details like farm name, region, altitude, roast level, and recommended brew method.
Specialty coffee emphasize sustainable practices, and complete transparency - from farm to cup.
Where can I buy fresh coffee beans in the Netherlands and Belgium?
Right here at Coffeeteca! We partner with top-rated local roasters in the Netherlands and Belgium. You can order fresh beans online with convenient delivery options.
What is the best coffee grinder for home brewing?
A burr grinder is recommended for consistent grind size. Brands like Fellow, Baratza, Varia, Comandante, Timemore are popular among home brewers - most of which are available at Coffeeteca. Many of our roasters offer grinder recommendations suited to their beans.
What’s the difference between espresso beans and filter coffee beans?
Espresso roasts are developed for high-pressure extraction and typically showcase deeper, caramelized notes. Filter roasts are lighter and designed to highlight complex flavors in slower brews. We clearly label each roast to guide your choice.
How long do coffee beans stay fresh after opening?
Whole beans stay fresh for about 2 weeks after opening if stored in original package and an airtight container away from light and heat. For best taste, grind just before brewing
What are single-origin coffee beans?
Single-origin beans come from one farm, region, country, offering unique flavor notes based on terroir and processing.
Explore our single-origin collection to taste coffee’s diversity - from fruity Ethiopians and vibrant Colombians to nutty Brazilians and rich, spicy coffees from Asia.
At Coffeeteca, we also offer rare and limited-edition lots, featuring unique varietals like Geisha and Wush Wush, along with a wide selection of experimental coffees for those eager to discover something truly special in every cup.
Are Organic or Fair Trade coffee beans better?
Organic beans are grown without synthetic chemicals; Fair Trade ensures better wages and ethical practices. Many Coffeeteca roasters support both - check labels on each coffee’s profile.
